Mark Vincent - Best So far

    2:30 & 7:30pm

Book Now   Concert Hall QPACMV PHOTO

Who better to launch the dynamic new 2016 concert season of Australia’s most entertaining orchestra than tenor singing sensation Mark Vincent – who has carved out an impressive career on the concert stage since winning the third series of Australia’s Got Talent in 2009, aged just 16. Mark’s commanding stature and powerful voice earned him a contract with Sony Music, which resulted in no less than five albums making the ARIA Classical Top 20 music charts, with the Compass and The Great Tenor Songbook both certified gold in Australia.

We warmly welcome Mark back to the Pops fold after his spectacular debut at the 2014 Best Of British concerts. Mark will showcase his biggest hits in his very own ‘Best Of’ show, drawing from a broad repertoire of the most memorable songs of all time. This will be a concert not to be missed!

To quote Mark Vincent himself: “Music is in me. You know, when you're born with something inherently in you? I think we are all born with a voice capable of singing, but not everyone has it in them to use it. I grew up listening to all the beautiful arias, and I feel that when I sing, I really am the happiest guy on earth. All my troubles are gone. And you know, many people have a great voice, an exceptional voice even, but what's missing is the storytelling. It's not just about singing notes; it's always, always about telling a story.”

Mark’s amazing tenor voice – which has a depth and clarity that belies his years – together with the genuine affinity he enjoys with his audience, will once again ensure the warmest afterglow ... long after the concert is over. Mark’s star continues to rise with each passing year, so don’t miss this premiere event for 2016. Mark’s most recent album is entitled Best So Far ... and he is sure to deliver above and beyond that pledge, accompanied by the one and only Queensland Pops Orchestra. Sit back, get comfortable and savour the wonders of one of Australia’s most sought-after young male vocalists, and be treated to a night of unforgettable songs from the very best popular music has to offer.

And who could forget Rhonda’s legendary performance in the iconic Mamma Mia!?

Like life, Broadway music boasts the most euphoric spectrum of light and shade, and Rhonda will be treading the boards with style, running the gamut of emotions in what promises to be a lap-tapping, eye-glistening journey through the most magical moments of musical theatre.

New Year's Eve … a day and a night brimming with traditions … an occasion when the peoples of the world pack up their troubles and celebrate with style, colour, movement, good food and at least one glass of bubbly. But one of the greatest traditions on this very special date in our Brisbane calendar is the dazzling and tuneful New Year’s Eve concert, starring our one and only Queensland Pops Orchestra.

Ringing in the New Year is all about your vantage point … and what better than the colourful confines of the QPAC Concert Hall on this, the loveliest night of the year. As the clock strikes 9.30 p.m., so begins a crescendo of champagne clinks – of the vocal and instrumental kind of course! Sit back and relax as the bars open and the Queensland Pops Orchestra floods the musical streets, dancing and drinking in the best of QPO traditions – right up until fifteen minutes before bewitching hour!

An array of musical morsels from all corners of the globe are in store. Of course, there are the world-renowned visual highlights of this most celebrated night of nights – watching the famous ‘ball drop’ at New York’s Times Square as the clock strikes 12, or joining the one million-plus Berliners who take to the streets to enjoy the fireworks at Brandenburger Tor. Here in our sunshine state of Queensland, we too have our own rich array of traditions on this golden date … and for 2016, all roads lead to South Bank  and the fabulous QPAC Concert Hall, where maestro Patrick Pickett CSM and the Queensland Pops Orchestra show the world how to party!

For the record, the QPO has enjoyed exclusivity as the only musical act in Queensland to have custody of the Concert Hall for this event since the orchestra’s inception back in 1984. Join the happy throng that make this a must-see spectacular each and every year.

If the idea of a musical celebration has tickled your fancy so far, here are three more fabulous reasons to celebrate NYE 2016 with the Pops: headlining the show are two of Queensland’s most internationally acclaimed artists, soprano Mirusia and baritone Jason Barry-Smith, who return by popular demand alongside another Pops audience favourite, violin virtuoso Cherin Lee. Together with a show reel of masterpieces from the orchestra’s rich and varied international repertoire, these stars of the stage are set to wow the crowd all the way through to 11.45 p.m. … allowing time for those who wish it to catch the traditional Brisbane fireworks display on the strike of 12!

The early performance aims to be out for the 8:30pm fireworks.

History was in the making when special guest artist Mirusia’s aunt – who lives in the Netherlands – contacted hugely popular violinist and master-of-the-spectacular Andre Rieu to tell him about the amazing talent of her niece in Australia. Andre recalls their first meeting: “Of course I was curious – so I listened to her voice on her website. She chose a Mozart aria and I had tears in my eyes; with her fantastic voice and those blonde curls, it was like listening to an angel! Mirusia really can sing anything – from opera to musical to pop – with obvious pleasure and such ease … as if it just happened by itself.” Patrick and the orchestra are delighted to be working with Mirusia again, and audiences will be treated to the voice that has become one of the most sought-after in the world; Mirusia’s renowned performance of “Ave Maria” remains one of the most popular YouTube hits of all time.

Jason Barry-SmithThe dapper master of musicals and all things operatic, Queensland’s own Jason Barry-Smith, returns to strut his stuff on this sparkling night of nights.  With an international reputation and impressive list of opera repertoire under his belt, Jason loves any excuse for a party (as seasoned Pops followers will know), and he promises to ‘live the music’ in his inimitable style, leaving you no time at all to ponder on the explosion of colour waiting to be unleashed outside!

The Pops’ NYE 2016 will be as photogenic as it is musically brilliant, with the eagerly-anticipated return of one of the Pops’ great recent success stories, 15-year-old violinist Cherin Lee, a high school student at Somerville House in Brisbane. Watching Cherin perform is truly a feast for the eyes and ears; Cherin displays a technique of the highest professional standard, so marvel at this young virtuoso’s stunning musical craft.

Making his debut with the Queensland Pops Orchestra is Luke Harrison.  The life of a treble voice is short lived, so we are delighted that Luke is able to join us at this time in his emerging young career.

For a few hours on New Year’s Eve, you can put aside the noise of everyday! Join Patrick Pickett, the Queensland Pops Orchestra and our star guests for an exceptional night of first-class entertainment and thrills galore ... then it’s time for champagne-induced bliss and reminiscence of another year over. See you there!
