Katie Stenzel is a dynamic, young coloratura soprano from Brisbane. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music from QUT in 2007 and went on to complete her Masters of Music Studies at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music in 2009.
Katie was delighted to perform the role of Yum-Yum for Opera Queensland’s 2012 Season Launch, followed by their production of The Mikado (chorus and Yum-Yum cover). Following this, she was engaged as a featured artist for the New Taipei City Drama Festival in Taiwan. Katie then appeared in Opera Australia’s chorus of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour’s 2013 production of Carmen.
Katie also performs regularly with The 7 Sopranos around Australia and internationally. She completed her debut recording with The 7 Sopranos on their self-titled album for ABC Classics, including her solo of ‘O mio babbino caro’.
Katie made her Adelaide Fringe Festival debut in 2014, as a principal for Pleasure Opera by Fat Lady Productions. She also performed in The 7 Soprano’s concert, Reverie, with her singing repertoire including ‘Der Hölle Rache’ and ‘The Doll Song’. Katie is engaged to be the principal soprano in the recording of The Crushing, a new opera by Peter Rankine, in cooperation with Opera Queensland and the Queensland Government.
Recently, Katie sang the role of Cunegonde in excerpts from Candide at Opera Q’s 2015 season launch with David Hobson, and will be covering the role during the full production next year.
